Ajax Bomb Girls Committee

The Ajax Bomb Girls, which includes, Town of Ajax Councillor Pat Brown, Regional Councillor Colleen Jordan and an enthusiastic group of Ajax residents are committed to a two-year fundraising campaign to establish a memorial for the thousands of females that worked at Defence Industries Limited in Ajax throughout the Second World War.

Over a span of two years, the committee will work to raise funds for ‘The Legacy Campaign” which will honour former Defence Industries women and will also provide financial support to produce a monument that will be displayed in the future Pat Bayly Square. Several fundraising events and initiatives including their first, ‘Shell-abration’ that will be held in September (2012) will support the Campaign. The Committee is also dedicated to making appearances at community events to promote and raise awareness about the importance of the Town’s rich history.

The group’s commitment is based on the opportunity to pay tribute to the women while providing a lasting legacy that Ajax residents can be proud of. The memorial will not only honour these women but will also serve to educate future generations about the roots of Ajax as a town and its unique history.
